Materials & Quality

What brands of pavers do you use?

We exclusively use Cambridge Pavers and Techo-Bloc - the industry's top premium brands. We never use cheap alternatives. Both brands offer lifetime warranties, superior durability, and beautiful color options that won't fade.

Why are Cambridge and Techo-Bloc pavers better?

Cambridge pavers feature ArmorTec® technology that keeps colors vibrant for decades. Techo-Bloc uses HD² surface technology for extra strength and durability. Both brands have sold billions of pavers worldwide and offer lifetime warranties. They're simply the best in the business.

What is open-grade base and why does it matter?

Open-grade base is a superior installation method using crushed stone that allows water to drain through instead of pooling underneath. This prevents settling, frost heave, and premature failure - especially important at the Jersey Shore. It's the difference between a patio that lasts 5 years and one that lasts 30+ years.

What does 'commercial specifications' mean?

All our work is done to commercial-grade specifications, meaning we use the same rigorous standards for residential projects that we'd use for commercial properties. This includes proper excavation depth (6-8" for patios, 10-12" for driveways), geotextile fabric, compacted base layers, concrete edge restraints, and polymeric sand jointing.

Pricing & Payment

How much does a paver patio cost?

Patio costs typically range from $18-$30 per square foot depending on the paver style, pattern complexity, site conditions, and project size. A typical 400 sq ft patio ranges from $7,200-$12,000. We provide detailed itemized quotes so you know exactly what you're paying for.

What affects the price of my project?

Several factors influence pricing: paver style and manufacturer, project size (larger projects have lower per-square-foot costs), site accessibility, excavation requirements, existing conditions, pattern complexity, and optional features like lighting, fire pits, or sitting walls.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes! We offer flexible payment plans to make your dream outdoor space affordable. We can discuss installment options during your consultation. Our goal is to work within your budget without compromising quality.

What's included in your quotes?

Our quotes include everything: excavation, geotextile fabric, base materials (3/4" and 3/8" blue gravel), pavers, polymeric sand, concrete edge restraints, labor, equipment, and cleanup. No hidden fees. What you see is what you pay.

Installation Process

How long does installation take?

Most patio and walkway projects take 3-5 days. Driveways typically take 5-7 days. Retaining walls vary based on height and length but usually take 4-7 days. Weather and site conditions can affect timelines, but we'll give you an accurate estimate upfront.

What's your installation process?

We follow a proven 9-step process: (1) Site preparation and marking, (2) Excavation to proper depth, (3) Geotextile fabric installation, (4) Base gravel installation and compaction, (5) Leveling layer installation, (6) Paver placement in your chosen pattern, (7) Cutting and edge work, (8) Compaction, (9) Polymeric sand application and final cleanup.

Will you damage my lawn or landscaping?

We take great care to protect your property. We use plywood pathways for equipment, mark underground utilities, and clean up thoroughly each day. Any minor lawn disturbance from equipment is easily repairable and we'll advise you on restoration.

Do I need to be home during installation?

Not necessarily. We just need access to the work area and a water source. Many homeowners go to work while we're on site. We'll communicate daily about progress and any decisions that need to be made.

Maintenance & Longevity

How long will my paver project last?

When properly installed with open-grade base and quality pavers like Cambridge or Techo-Bloc, your project should last 30-50+ years. The pavers themselves are more durable than concrete and won't crack like poured surfaces.

What maintenance is required?

Very little! Sweep or blow off debris regularly, rinse with a hose occasionally, and reapply polymeric sand every 3-5 years. You may want to seal the pavers every few years to enhance color, but it's optional with Cambridge and Techo-Bloc's advanced surface technologies.

What if a paver cracks or stains?

That's the beauty of pavers - individual units can be replaced without tearing up the entire surface. Simply remove the damaged paver and pop in a new one. Stains can usually be removed with appropriate cleaners, and we can advise on the best products.

Will pavers fade over time?

Not with Cambridge and Techo-Bloc! Cambridge's ArmorTec® and Techo-Bloc's HD² technologies are specifically designed to resist fading. Your colors will stay vibrant for decades. That's why we only use premium brands.

Design & Customization

Can I choose any paver color and style?

Yes! We offer the full Cambridge and Techo-Bloc catalogs - that's 50+ paver products and 35+ colors. From traditional to modern, earth tones to grays, we have options for every aesthetic. We'll bring samples to your consultation.

What patterns are available?

Popular patterns include herringbone (most durable for driveways), running bond, basket weave, circular, random, and custom designs. Herringbone provides the best interlock. We'll recommend the best pattern for your project type and aesthetic goals.

Can you match my existing hardscaping?

In most cases, yes. If you have existing pavers, we can identify the manufacturer and product line to find a match or complementary style. Even if the exact product is discontinued, we can usually find a very close match.

Can you incorporate curves and custom shapes?

Absolutely! Pavers are perfect for curves, circles, and custom shapes. We can create curved walkways, circular patios, radius edges, and complex geometric designs. The only limit is your imagination (and budget).

Specific Projects

What's the difference between a patio and a walkway installation?

The main differences are excavation depth and width. Patios typically require 6-8" excavation and can be any size. Walkways are usually 3-4 feet wide with the same excavation depth. Both use the same quality base preparation and paver installation methods.

Can pavers be used for driveways?

Yes! Paver driveways are extremely durable when properly installed. We use 10-12" excavation, geotextile fabric, rebar-reinforced concrete edge restraints, and herringbone pattern for maximum strength. They handle freeze-thaw cycles better than asphalt or concrete.

How high can retaining walls be built?

We build retaining walls from 1-6 feet in height. Walls over 3 feet require geogrid reinforcement for structural integrity. Very tall walls (over 6 feet) may require engineering and permits. We'll assess your site and recommend the best solution.

Can you add a fire pit or outdoor kitchen to my patio?

Yes! We specialize in complete outdoor living spaces. We can integrate fire pits, outdoor fireplaces, outdoor kitchens, sitting walls, and lighting into your patio design. These features can be added during initial construction or retrofitted later.

Permits & Regulations

Do I need a permit for my paver project?

It depends on your municipality and project type. Most patios and walkways don't require permits. Driveways sometimes do. Retaining walls over 4 feet usually require permits. We'll research your local requirements and handle permit applications if needed.

Are there HOA restrictions I should know about?

Some homeowner associations have design guidelines for exterior improvements. We recommend checking your HOA rules before starting. We're happy to work with your HOA to ensure compliance and can provide detailed plans for approval if required.

What about drainage regulations?

Proper drainage is critical and often regulated. We design all projects with appropriate slope (typically 1-2% away from structures) and use open-grade base for permeability. This meets most local stormwater management requirements.

Weather & Seasonal

What time of year is best for paver installation?

Spring through fall (April-November) are ideal. We can work in winter if temperatures stay above freezing, but ground conditions may delay projects. Summer is our busiest season, so book early for preferred timing.

What happens if it rains during installation?

Light rain usually doesn't stop us, but heavy rain can delay work. We'll cover materials and secure the site. Once the rain stops and the ground dries, we resume. We build weather contingency into our schedules.

How do pavers handle New Jersey winters?

Excellent! Pavers are more freeze-thaw resistant than concrete because they flex independently. Our open-grade base allows water to drain away instead of freezing underneath. You can use salt and snow blowers without damage.

Comparisons

Pavers vs. concrete - which is better?

Pavers win in almost every category: more durable, won't crack like concrete, easy to repair, better aesthetics, higher resale value, and better drainage. Concrete is initially cheaper but costs more long-term due to cracking and replacement.

Pavers vs. natural stone - which should I choose?

Pavers are more uniform, more affordable, easier to install, and more durable. Natural stone offers unique character but is more expensive, harder to maintain, and can be slippery when wet. For most homeowners, quality pavers like Cambridge or Techo-Bloc are the better choice.

Why not just use the cheapest pavers?

Cheap pavers fade quickly, crack easily, and don't have proper warranties. You'll spend more replacing them in 5-10 years than you'd spend on Cambridge or Techo-Bloc pavers that last 30-50+ years. We've seen too many failed cheap paver projects to recommend them.
