What a paver patio
actually costs.

Five things move the price of a paver patio, and only one of them is the pavers. Here is the honest breakdown — then a written, itemized estimate within 48 hours of seeing your yard.

The five things that set your price

Every honest paver patio estimate is built from these. Anyone quoting a flat per-square-foot number over the phone is guessing.

01Size and shape

Square footage sets the baseline, but shape drives labor: curves, circles, steps and inlays all mean more cutting and more time than a simple rectangle of the same area.

02Excavation and disposal

What is there now has to come out and go somewhere. An existing concrete slab, old brick, or heavy root mass adds machine time and dump fees before a single new paver is laid.

03Base depth

This is the big one. Sandy Ocean County soil, high water tables near the lagoons, and freeze-thaw cycles all dictate how deep we excavate and how many compacted lifts the base needs. It is the least visible line on the estimate and the one that decides whether the patio is flat in year ten.

04Material choice

Cambridge and Techo-Bloc both make excellent product lines across a wide price range. Texture, thickness, and color availability move the number — we bring samples to the site visit so you are choosing with your eyes, not a catalog.

05Access and drainage

If a machine can reach the space, the job is faster. If everything is hand-carried through a gate, it is not. Add any grading or drainage work the yard needs to move water away from the house, and you have the full picture.

Why we don't publish a per-square-foot rate

Because it would be a number we'd have to walk back. Two patios of identical size on the same street can differ by thousands once you account for what is under them — one sits on stable ground, the other needs a foot of excavation and drainage before anything gets built.

What we will commit to: a real site visit, and a detailed written estimate within 48 hours, itemized so you can hold it next to any other quote and compare the parts that matter — excavation depth, base material, compaction, and what happens to the water.

Planning the lawn around it too? Our sister company Ocean County Sod installs farm-fresh sod and irrigation — most patio customers finish the project with fresh grass to the edge, and doing both while the yard is already open costs less than two separate jobs.

How to compare two patio quotes

If you're holding estimates from us and someone else, these are the lines to read first.

01

Read the excavation depth

How deep are they digging, and where is the spoil going? A shallow dig is the cheapest way to make a quote look competitive.

02

Read the base spec

Dense-graded stone compacted in lifts, or sand over dirt? Ask how many lifts and what compacts them. This single line separates a decade-long patio from a three-year one.

03

Read the warranty

Ours is a 3-year workmanship warranty on the construction, on top of the manufacturer warranty on Cambridge and Techo-Bloc units. Ask what theirs covers and who honors it.

Paver patio pricing questions

How much does a paver patio cost to install?
Paver patio installation cost is driven by five things, and any contractor quoting you a per-square-foot price sight-unseen is guessing at all five: the size and shape of the patio, how much excavation and disposal the site needs, how deep the base has to be built for your soil, which paver line you choose, and how equipment gets to the space. That is why we do a site visit first and then put a detailed, itemized written estimate in your hands within 48 hours — so you can see exactly what you are paying for, line by line.
Why do paver patio prices vary so much between quotes?
Almost always because of the base — the part you never see. A quote built on four inches of compacted stone and a quote built on two inches of sand over dirt look identical on paper and cost very different amounts. One lasts decades; the other moves by the third winter. When you compare estimates, compare excavation depth, base material, and compaction method, not just the total.
Are pavers cheaper than a concrete patio?
A poured concrete slab is usually cheaper up front. Pavers win on the long run: no crack lines, no cure time, salt-tolerant, and individually replaceable — a stained or settled section gets lifted and relaid in an afternoon instead of jackhammered out. For coastal Ocean County freeze-thaw cycles, that flexibility is why we build in pavers.
What is included in your paver patio estimate?
Everything needed to build it: excavation and haul-away, geotextile where the soil calls for it, dense-graded stone base compacted in lifts, screeded setting bed, the pavers themselves, edge restraint, polymeric sand joints, and full cleanup. Anything that is not included is stated plainly on the estimate — no surprise line items mid-project.
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes. A deposit secures your project, a progress payment follows demo and base preparation, and the balance is due at completion. We take card, cash, check, and Zelle, and we can talk through options that spread the project across the schedule.
How long does a paver patio take to build?
Most residential patios run two to five build days once materials are delivered — excavation and base in the first days, laying and finishing after. Your written estimate includes the schedule so you know what to plan around.
